Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500: NASCAR DFS Rankings and Projections

SEPTEMBER 24, 2022

AUTOTRADER ECHOPARK AUTOMOTIVE 500 AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

I’d like to start this with a Haiku:

If the tires don’t pop.

If power steering stays strong.

Money will be won.

All kidding aside, it’s been hard to create accurate DFS projections with some of the crazy shit we have seen this season. Rest assured, we never give up. I have put a ton of work into these like usual, and hopefully, this will help guide us all to the promised land on Sunday.

I wish you all the best of luck, now let’s get to work…

NASCAR DFS STRATEGY

My recommendation is to keep your player pool larger than normal, as a few different factors could have us seeing quite a few different drivers up front throughout the race.

  1. We will see fuel only, 2-tire, and 4-tire pit stops.
  2. We will see drivers stay out longer than most in green flag runs to try and get a lucky caution and gain track position.
  3. We will (hopefully not) see all the crazy issues we have seen this year. Tires blowing, engines blowing, power steering failing, and whatever else the NextGen era has brought our way.

With 334 laps, and over 200 “dominator points” (laps led and fastest laps) to earn, you will need those in your lineups to succeed. We will try to roster at least 2-3 in every lineup. It will be harder with these varying strategies, but essential to know how we want to build before we start.

I will do my best to guide you through this, but please keep an open mind when making your lineups.

EACH CATEGORY BELOW IS SORTED BY THE PT/$ VALUE COLUMN IN MY PROJECTIONS

FAVORITES TO LEAD LAPS:

Joey Logano $8,900 (Starting 2nd)

Tyler Reddick $9,400 (Starting 4th)

William Byron $9,100 (Starting 3rd)

LAP LEADER W/HUGE RISK:

Brad Keselowski $6,800 (Starting 1st)

PRICEY PLACE DIFFERENTIAL POTENTIAL:

Alex Bowman $8,400 (Starting 17th)

Ryan Blaney $9,600 (Starting 14th)

Erik Jones $8,000 (Starting 27th)

Kevin Harvick $8,700 (Starting 23rd)

Bubba Wallace $8,600 (Starting 19th)

Ross Chastain $9,200 (Starting 12th)

CHEAP PLACE DIFFERENTIAL POTENTIAL:

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. $6,600 (Starting 21st)

Aric Almirola $7,200 (Starting 25th)

Chase Briscoe $7,500 (Starting 30th)

Ty Dillon $5,400 (Starting 32nd)

Justin Haley $5,700 (Starting 31st)

HIGH RISK/REWARD PLAYS:

Austin Dillon $7,300 (Starting 7th) – could lose positions, but if that speed that he has shown this weekend is real, he could maintain. Will be low-owned starting in P7.

Denny Hamlin $10,800 (Starting 8th) – risk based on price, needs to get to the front, and didn’t show great speed. Long race, though. If this team figures it out, he’s been incredible on this track type.

Kyle Busch $10,000 (Starting 18th) – same as Hamlin. What is up with these Yota’s? Official GUT BOI play of Chase’s so I will have to play some.

Kyle Larson $10,700 (Starting 9th) – same as Hamlin.

Chase Elliott $10,500 (Starting 6th) – same as Hamlin/Larson.

Christopher Bell $10,300 (Starting 22nd) – same as Hamlin/Larson/Elliott, but this team looked lost all weekend. Starting 22nd seems safe and it’s a long race to figure it out, so I guess we cannot count him out with how he’s been recently.
