United Rentals 176: NASCAR DFS Truck Series Picks For DraftKings

NASCAR IS BACK!!!! That’s right; I am so excited to hit the greatest road course on the schedule of Watkins Glen, and we get to kick the weekend off with the NASCAR DFS slate for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Truck God: Engaged.

Trucks deserved a month off after the catastrophe of a race that was the Knoxville dirt race. That race brings nothing but pain and suffering to my fragile heart. Chandler Smith won that race, and nobody can convince me otherwise.

This weekend will not reflect what we saw in Knoxville. In fact, it will likely be the exact opposite of a reflection of that race. Historically, the Glen rises to the occasion of providing pure excitement for almost every single race.

To add some more excitement to the picture, the Trucks have not run here since 2000. That race was won by no other than Greg Biffle. The Bif’ was a Truck God himself back in those days.

But, here we are: this is the present. We are here together to get back on that winning grind and brutally rob our bookies and Las Vegas collectively. Let’s get right into it.

Also, don’t forget: I am up 67 Units on straight-betting between the NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR Truck Series in 2021. Subscribe to Garage Guys Premium to catch my picks for the rest of the season.

NASCAR DFS Truck Picks For DraftKings

Sheldon Creed: #2 GMS Racing Chevrolet – $9,800

Garage Guy Sheldon has proven to be an excellent road racer since the beginning of his march into the Truck God rankings.

Damn. “GG Sheldon” sounds pretty damn good.

Anyway, dating back to 2019, here are Sheldon’s finishes at road courses: 4th, 1st, 2nd, 5th. Amongst all of those races, he’s accumulated 50 laps led as well.

Sheldon was very strong at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year before fading at the end to a 5th place finish. I expect Creed to charge through the field on Saturday from his P19 starting position and be a strong threat to win.

Book Creed as my top play for Saturday.

Austin Wayne Self: #22 AM Racing Chevrolet – $5,700

When in doubt, go with AWS baby. I get he’s not a sexy play this weekend, but his road course results over the past three years are pretty stout: 21st, 14th, 11th, 15th and 16th.

Many will shy away because his starting spot of 20th could be too risky. Based on his consistency and ability to run better than that P20 starting spot, I believe it is actually less risky than other punt plays.

Remember: if he finishes anywhere from 17th to 22nd, he will score 20 points or more. He has upside to score more than that, too.

Paul Menard: #66 ThorSport Toyota – $10,400

If you told me I would be writing about Paul Menard driving a truck in 2021, I would’ve told you to go receive extensive mental assistance. I apologize for hypothetically insulting your intelligence because here we are.

Paul makes his 2nd start of the season after finishing 11th at COTA in his surprise return to NASCAR. I know Paul isn’t some wizard-like road course ace, but he’s starting 39th.

If he finishes anywhere in the Top 15, it becomes a prolific scoring day. You simply just cannot fade someone who has a high potential for a 60-70 point outing. He’s also in a formidable, competitive truck.

If you play multiple lineups, just make sure you have some with Menard. He could be a race changer this weekend.

AJ Allmendinger: #23 GMS Racing Chevrolet – $10,100

Speaking of a wizard-like road course ace..

Yeah. I know. This one is like the “too obvious” pick to write about.

How do you not though? AJ is one of the best road racers of all time and is tearing up the Xfinity Series right now. Now he has the chance to drive a GMS truck with a less talented field of drivers?

Yep. I’m playing him.

His starting spot of P23 is tasty. I simply just cannot pass him up. AJ will be a serious threat to win this race on Saturday.
