Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500: NASCAR DFS Premium Rankings

Fresh off the Easter break and right into NASCAR HOT DOG SZN with the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville. It feels good to be back and the energy has been high all week as The Guys wrap up DFS and Betting research. We could see some bad weather and potential delays as we have already seen with Xfinity. Nevertheless, let’s get into the tiered rankings and Chef’s Cook Books.

I rank every driver and tier them based on price. There is no sense to compare Chase Elliot to Quin Houff, but comparing Chase Elliot to Kevin Harvick, for example, tends to make sense. The rankings will be posted first and represent the “initial pass” on my approach to the slate.

The notes represent my “second pass” and will provide more insight into how I am building lineups, what I have learned from looking around the industry, and mention any situations where I’m “hotter” or “colder” on anyone than when I set the rankings. For example, I may mention that there is a large gap in my interest level after the top three ranked drivers in a given tier. Another example would be to point out that drivers ranked 1-3 are interchangeable in terms of my interest. My suggestion is to enter multiple lineups and use the rankings and notes as a guide as you build lineups.

If you are a more serious player building 40+ lineups, I do suggest purchasing a lineup optimizer tool. These are affordable for our more advanced players and you can get them relatively cheap – especially if you are purchasing for NASCAR only. We will definitely look to partner with a third party or build one in-house for next season. If you need help selecting one, I’m here to help explain and recommend what you need. To reiterate – this is only for advanced players and you do not need this unless you have full command of the tool. In fact, it can do more harm than good if you do not know what you are doing.

NASCAR DFS Tiered Rankings – Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500

Tier 1 Notes

Mix and match! You know the drill by now with the dominators. It is crucial to have 2-3 in each lineup with so many fastest laps and laps led on the table. As my rankings indicate, I expect Team Penske and Team Hendrick to be fast. Some of my better-ranked dominators should be pretty highly owned. I like the idea of using some Larson, Hamlin, and Blaney as GPP pivots. Do not fully fade drivers in this tier unless you are only entering a few lineups.

Tier 2 Notes

Kurt B and Alex B are my favorites from this tier with their place-differential upside. However, the pricing of the tier 1 guys is forcing me down to Matty D and Bacon Boi on a portion of my lineups. I have about 30% exposure to Kurt and Bowman. Depending on what dominators you cram into the same lineup, you might have to skip this tier altogether. This tier would be more for your balanced builds and 2 dom teams.

Tier 3 Notes

The pressure is on for Bubba Wallace to perform here at Martinsville. It has been one of his best tracks and I expect him to deliver. I’ll be cringing if he is running well and has a late issue. Ross Chastain is getting a healthy amount of my exposure with his projection relative to price and starting position. His FD price is absolutely ridiculous. You will be venturing down to this tier and tier 4 in a good bit on any 3 dominator teams on DK.

Tier 4 Notes

This tier never feels good, but there are so many dominator points at Martinsville that you will need to take some shots. Lajoie has impressive history here compared to his overall stats. Preece and Alfredo are my other favorites. Preece = higher risk but higher finishing position potential. Alfredo and Lajoie = higher floor/lower risk/less finishing position potential. Mike Mac would be the closest thing to a Preece play in this range if you want to pivot. McLeod and Haley are in play just because of 3 dom teams.

Platform Insights (DraftKings/FanDuel)

I’m adding this section just to point out a few things across platforms as I’m building lineups. As a reminder, place differential, laps led, and fastest laps are more important on DraftKings. FanDuel is all about finishing position so your goal should be to get as many drivers that can finish inside the top 10/top 5.

  • Kyle Larson 2nd highest priced on DK versus 11k on FD and 7th highest
  • Ross Chastain priced all the way down with the super punts on FD. 3.5k is an insane price.
  • Easier to get to Bowman/Kurt B on FD but still firmly in play on both sites
  • Not as much to point out this week except for some punts being too cheap on FD.
